On July 5, Legends of Equestria suffered a cyberattack that compromised a key database in our system, and allowed the attacker to access records such as usernames, email addresses, and password hashes for all accounts registered with us.

From what we’ve been able to gather, it does not appear that the attacker’s aim was to collect personal information from the accounts of all players. Instead, members of our team were specifically targeted, in order to use their information to attempt to gain access to game project files.

Although at this stage we do not believe that gathering general user information from our audience was the attacker’s aim, the fact remains that this information was available to them. Sensitive data was protected (e.g. salted and hashed), but simpler information, such as passwords containing no mixed symbols and common words/phrases, could have been brute-forced. This means that the attacker would potentially be able to access any account using that same email and password combination on any other website or service.

For this reason, we once again strongly recommend that anyone who has ever created a Legends of Equestria account — to post on our forum, or to play the game during one of our open events — immediately changes their passwords on any website or service that may have had the same password as the one they used with LoE.

We are continuing to investigate this issue, and are taking the necessary precautions to prevent anything like this happening again. Because of these efforts, we do not anticipate having our forum available for public use again until the end of July, to ensure that we can maintain the safety of everyone in the future.

We do not yet know whether this attack will delay development of the game past our intended Open Access Release date of August 19; we are still working hard on the project, but have lost valuable development time because of this attack. As soon as we have a better idea of whether this will cause us to push back that release date, we will let everyone know.

We can only apologise for this security breach, and promise you all that we are working hard and taking all necessary steps to prevent anything like this from happening again. We are still committed to bringing you the best possible experience of the world of Equestria that we’ve built, and we hope that you will be patient and understanding as we deal with this issue.

We will be switching web hosts soon!

Oct 29
We will be switching web hosts some time this week.

The forums and website will be down for a few hours while this happens, and probably be in maintenance mode a few hours before the switch.

This is to help upgrade our servers, meaning that the forums should run smoother with fewer errors in addition to making logging into the game easier.

Thank you for your understanding. ^-^ <3

Canterlot Gardens Indiegogo!

Oct 05
Hello everyone!

Our friends over at Canterlot Gardens need help getting funding for 2014!
We had an amazing time and presented an amazing panel in 2012, and we would love for the con to happen again.

Canterlot Gardens 2012 took place in Strongsville, Ohio and featured many incredible guests. There were over 20 voice actors and a dozen musicians, which made for an amazing event!

We even have a very special offer this time around! For the first time ever, you'll have the opportunity to create an NPC for Legends of Equestria! Check it out at their indiegogo page here.

For the Legends of Equestria Canterlot Gardens 2012 panel, you can check that out here.

Have a great day, everyone!
